Escape the confines of self-doubt as you discover the art of channeling personal thoughts and emotions into uninhibited drawings. In this workshop, you will begin by examining your unexplained loves, dislikes, and guilty pleasures to become more intimate with your own perspective. Creating a series of preliminary drawings, you will gain the ability to express this newfound intimacy in your final piece. Walk away with a greater confidence in your perspective and invaluable skills to craft responsive, self-judgment-free work.

Sanctuary: An Exploration of Queer Havens

Sanctuary: An Exploration of Queer Havens

Sanctuary: An Exploration of Queer Safe Havens explores safe spaces and personal sanctuaries through Queer POC artworks. This exhibition gives the viewer an opportunity to look into the most vulnerable and intimate spaces that these artists create for themselves and others in their community. This exhibition presents the reality that we all build a space that protects us from the harshness and tragedies of the world; some of these spaces are filled with others that share our identities and sometimes we are in these sanctuaries alone. This reality brings us closer together in a time where we are divided.

This exhibition showcases the works of Rick Vaughn, Autumn Wallace, Dara Haskins, Pablo Alarcón Jr., Jungmok Yi, and the members of the Somatic Stories Project. “Sanctuary” creates a space for artists to show why developing a safe haven is so important for one's well being. Sanctuary: An Exploration of Queer Safe Havens will take place at the Da Vinci Art Alliance from February 18th- March 7th.

Founded by AAPF in December 2014, the #SayHerName campaign works with the mothers and families of Black women, girls, and femmes killed by police, to elevate their stories and fight for justice.

19.5% @ Little Berlin

“19.5%” is a group exhibition curated by Chelsey Luster that showcases works

by Chris Friday, Chloe Pinero, Jessica S. Oler, Hysterical Men, Nikki D’Agostino, Lucy H.

West, Gabe Loredo, Annalise Yuri Murphy, Jacqueline White, Shelby Fleming, Autumn

Wallace, Alezendria Decking, Kelley Prevard, Alfiatul Nurdin, Francena Ottley, and

Gerald Brown. The works in this exhibition are responding to the increase of women in

congress as a result of the 2018 midterm elections and will be held at Little Berlin

Gallery.

The election results were a monumental moment for women in the U.S. and

symbolized a collective hope for more gender equality. Even though there are more

women than ever in congress, women only make up 19.5% of the total number of

elected representatives. This exhibition aims to remind viewers that the project of

representation remains incomplete and that a change in politics will have to be driven

by an articulation and visibility of new needs and experiences.

This exhibition creates a space for these women artists to challenge what

women empowerment can look like, vocalize their own political views, and to start

critical conversations as we enter 2020, the year of the presidential election.

The opening reception will take place on Friday, September 6th, 2019 and the

closing reception with an artist panel discussion will take place on Saturday, September

28th, 2019.

P.S. Outside of these dates the show will be open weekly on Sundays from 10-4pm

More Than That by Guest Curator Roberto Lugo @ Flaten Museum

Guest curator Roberto Lugo knows the frustration of being artistically pigeonholed by the color of his skin. More Than That: Diversity within Diversity brings together artists of color working in a multiplicity of genres and forms that defy cultural expectations frequently imposed upon artists of color. Lugo explains, “the artists invited not only represent artists of color currently working in ceramics, but the diversity of discourse taking place within our communities.” Presented currently with the 53rd annual NCECA conference in Minneapolis, Minn., this exhibition embodies Claytopia’s conception of a “restless yearning for a more livable, just and meaningful world.” Exhibiting artists include Paul Briggs, Syd Carpenter, Morel Doucet, Ezenwa, Courtney Leonard, Roberto Lugo, Malcolm Mobutu Smith, Sana Musasama, Autumn Wallace, and Diego Valles. Creating socially engaged work, these artists push the field of ceramics to participate with the communities in which artists find themselves.
